Some things you can do to take better portraits

One of the ways pictures are taken most of the time is in a portrait style.  Portraits are when you have the subject framed in a shot.  Since it is so common a lot of times you don’t see a variety. But if you try and use a little more creativity you can make the average shots so much better. This article’s goal is to have you learn some ways that you can make an average photo better.

First thing you will want is maybe having the perspective of the shot from a different angle. What I am talking about is to not take the photograph from where you would normally take it.You can have the picture’s direction changed and coming from a different angle.  This is helpful in my San Diego wedding photographer business.People are so accustomed to the way most photos are taken that when it is taken differently it makes such a big difference.  For example photos you can take from a high angle.Or you can make a common portrait and take it from the ground looking up to make it different. It can really change the photograph dramatically.

Another good tip to do with photographs is to play with the eyes.  Most photos are taken with the subject looking into the camera.  But the direction of the subject’s eye really impacts the picture.  What you can do is have the subject look off camera.  This really gives the photo a different look and feel to it. Doing a lot of San Diego event photography I have my subjects do this all the time.

Another trick you might want to try is getting the subject to look at something with the picture. This is extremely effective when you are trying to promote something. You can have the product you are promoting be the thing the subject is looking at.  This is a trick that I do a lot as a San Diego corporate photographer. It really makes a big difference by bringing the focus onto the product.

So those are some tips you can do to really make your common photos uncommon.

Keeping those once in a lifetime moments alive

In everybody’s lives there are big events.Of course there is weddings, births, graduations, and a lot more.To just let those be memories is one of the tings you do not want. You want to make sure you are able to capture those moments forever with how wonderful cameras are.So here are some tips to ensure that with photography you do capture those moments.

First of all you do not need a professional service for all these great events. But of course a professional is always preferred for those big occassions. Of course on great occasions like weddings you would hire a professional.  That is why as a San Diego wedding photographer my service stays busy.Because it is such a special event you need a professional to take those shots and make them perfect.

Absolutely there are those great moments like the birth of a child. Now of course in the hospital room you wouldn’t want a professional photographer to cover the events. But you might need to hire one to take pictures of those first few days.  As a San Diego photographer my company gets hired to take newborn photos all the time. Those are some of the most momentous events so it makes sense to hire a professional.

Finally there are big events like graduations.  This is something that you can probably do yourself.  But it doesn’t hurt to hire a professional either.  As a San Diego event photography service we do graduations all the time.  And most of the time people hire us because they want memorable shots. And they want to take pleasure in the occasion instead of having to make sure to take photos.

As you can see there are many important moments in life.  And as you can see using photography is one of the best ways to remember them forever. Because not only will you remember them, but with pictures you will also be able to see them. That is something that is more than worth of the little investment.

How to take memorable wedding shots in bad weather

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Thursday 3 December 2009 at 6:00 pm

One thing you can’t control in a weddng is the weather. You can plan everything else but the weather is out of your hands no matter what you do.As a photographer, well, bad weather is something you can plan for.  Obviously you hope you don’t have to deal with it.But if you have been assigned a duty to do the pictures you want to be ready for whatever weather may happen. So here are some useful tips you can follow in case of bad weather in a wedding day.

First and foremost you need a backup plan.  No matter what you do you need to have another option for those outdoor shots you planned to take.  As a San Diego wedding photographer I usually don’t have to worry about this. But basically bad weather can also happen sometimes. The thing you can do is ensure that you have a backup location that is ready if the weather does get bad. With a backup place identified you can prepare a good plan for the photographs you will capture.

Planning to have more time for the wedding photos is another thing that you can do. What this will allow you to do is to hide or cover yourself when the rain is pouring. You can hurriedly take photos when the rain lets up.  I have had to do this several times as a San Diego photographer. It is not the perfect way to take photographs but it will work.

Finally you must have set up umbrellas. In some situations the weather will not let up and umbrellas will let you take them anyway.  In my San Diego event photography business we already have umbrellas ready for many reasons.Taking photos with overcast skies look great in pictures in reality. So it is not all bad.

So there are plenty of tips you can use to make the very best out of a bad weather in a wedding event.  As mentioned you can’t control the weather but you can control your plans and still have great photos.

One of the most popular hobbies in America is photography.Well, it is also popular throughout the world. You will notice it by taking note of how big the camera industry is.With that in mind, people are always looking for advice and tips so they can improve their photography skills.  Sure, the cameras of today make it easy to take photos. But to capture shots that can be memorable one must have some skills first.Fortunately, this skill can be acquired and one can learn and practice it.So here are some tips in developing that skills.

Just like in school or anything that requires skills, one must practice.  In my San Diego wedding photographer business that is what has helped me get better in taking wedding shots. So, in order to practice yourself you must be willing to take photos in every opportunity.  If you go to a wedding take photos of the wedding.  Take shots that a wedding photographer normally would take. You can compare your shots later on with the shots that the photographer took.

One must also practice taking photos at different time in a day.  As a San Diego photographer we get plenty of sunshine. But even in daylight you must still know how to manipulate the sunshine for your photo’s benefit.By practicing some shots at different times of day you will learn what shots work and what does not.And as you improve you will capture some great shots at different times of the day.

Going to big events is another great way to practice your camera skills.Events like county fairs.Or you can go to major sporting events.Even summer league of kids is a great event to take photos.  Doing San Diego event photography has allowed to realize how different the kind of photos you take at big events are.  You will improve your skill at taking photos of moving subjects by practicing at some sporting events.

So there are some of your tips to improving some of your photography skills. It can help in improving your skills. And in doing so you will also have a lot of fun because taking photos is fun.

How to take great shots as an amateur wedding photographer

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Wednesday 25 November 2009 at 9:40 pm

One of the biggest jobs a photographer can land is wedding photography. And one of the most popular hobbies around is photography. Not all people who learn photography do it for money.Taking wedding photos is very exciting for those who are still amateur photographers. So if you have a friend getting married you can surprise them with some shots that may be better than the hired photographer. So here are some advice on improving your wedding photography.

These are some tips for an amateur photographer but they are some tips I have gained doing San Diego wedding photographer work.  So if you are a professional they could help as well too.Because as mentioned earlier in the article, doing wedding shoots is one of the most satisfying things that can happen to a photographer.

So, the first thing that you can do is to psyche yourself up to be in the moment. What am I implying when I said be in the moment?Well, almost all of us know the feeling of being in a wedding. The events here are planned to the last detail. But a lot of emotions happen during those events even if they are planned. So you should be ready for those unplannned emotions and take them.  Those will be some of the best shots of the whole wedding.  In my portfolio as a San Diego photographer you can see that to be the case.

Another thing to remember is that in a wedding people are constantly on the move. So don’t just look for still shots. You will have some of your best photos if you capture the movement of the people. It can be hard to capture moving subjects but it is possible.  Of course I had to hone my skills doing San Diego event photography to be able to do this. But once you get the hang of taking shots that are not still shots you would start to love it.You can outshoot their hired photographer. That would be a great feeling if you are still an amateur. And you can even brag about your shots to your friends.  And who knows, it could lead to paying jobs.
