How to take great shots as an amateur wedding photographer

One of the biggest jobs a photographer can land is wedding photography. And one of the most popular hobbies around is photography. Not all people who learn photography do it for money.Taking wedding photos is very exciting for those who are still amateur photographers. So if you have a friend getting married you can surprise them with some shots that may be better than the hired photographer. So here are some advice on improving your wedding photography.

These are some tips for an amateur photographer but they are some tips I have gained doing San Diego wedding photographer work.  So if you are a professional they could help as well too.Because as mentioned earlier in the article, doing wedding shoots is one of the most satisfying things that can happen to a photographer.

So, the first thing that you can do is to psyche yourself up to be in the moment. What am I implying when I said be in the moment?Well, almost all of us know the feeling of being in a wedding. The events here are planned to the last detail. But a lot of emotions happen during those events even if they are planned. So you should be ready for those unplannned emotions and take them.  Those will be some of the best shots of the whole wedding.  In my portfolio as a San Diego photographer you can see that to be the case.

Another thing to remember is that in a wedding people are constantly on the move. So don’t just look for still shots. You will have some of your best photos if you capture the movement of the people. It can be hard to capture moving subjects but it is possible.  Of course I had to hone my skills doing San Diego event photography to be able to do this. But once you get the hang of taking shots that are not still shots you would start to love it.You can outshoot their hired photographer. That would be a great feeling if you are still an amateur. And you can even brag about your shots to your friends.  And who knows, it could lead to paying jobs.

Tips on digital photography

One popular hobby that poeple love to do is photography.A lot of people like to take pictures.Be it may their families or events. Or they love to take phots of places they go to.One thing people want to know about is taking better photos. And since digital cameras are ubiquitous nowadays then it would be easier to do.  But there are still some things you should know to take the best photos possible. So, here are some tips to help you improve your skills in digital photography.

Now these tips are from the experience I have gained as a San Diego wedding photographer.  So these tips have come from a trial by fire.  Because when you are taking pictures for a wedding you better get it right.

The first thing you need to learn is about lighting. You, as a photographer, should know the effects of light on your shots.  This is something I learned as a San Diego photographer.  Things like the rays of the sun during the day. Or room lighting for indoor shots make a big difference.Fortunately, right now at the age of digital cameras you can already test how lighting affects your shots. So testing the lighting effects is the first tip.

The next tip I will give is one should learn the art of creating depth and dimension on your photos. In our world, we look at things in 3-dimensions.But cameras only use 2-dimensions.But you can make it look like 3-D when you learn how to create depth and dimension.  It is a trick I had to learn doing San Diego event photography.Nobody want to just look at photos of events. They like to feel as if they are in that place when looking at the photo.  By creating depth in your shots you can make people feel like they are there.

Those are just a few of the many lessons you can learn on photography but learning those two tips is valuable.Your photos will be more livelier and you will be more appreciative of your work.So you must realize that taking photos is not just a point and click thing.  No, taking pictures is an art form.

Things to look for in a great wedding photographer

One thing most people forget to seek out for the wedding is a good wedding photographer. Most of the time people in general think all photographers are created equal.Or the very least they try to act like they are.  But they are not.  A wedding is a special day.So for that reason you should seek out a great photographer.  A person who can capture the moment memorably. You don’t want a person who thinks it is all about pointing and clicking.  So here are some things that make a good photographer.

First of all you want a photographer with an artistic talent.  Because if you find someone like that they can really make the photos memorable. How you determine that is by looking at their portfolio.  I let all my clients of my San Diego wedding photographer business look at my portfolio. That way they will see it firsthand how I not only have taken shots.  But also how I put it all together.  You can see it in their work if someone has an artistic side.

Another quality you will want them to have is a good personality. In photography it isn’t just the technical aspects of it.  A photographer with a good personality is needed to interact with the crowd.  As a San Diego photographer who has done a lot of weddings it makes a difference.  Someone who charms the crowd can get great shots out of them.Keep in mind that your guests are going to make up a large portion of those great moments as well.

Finally you want someone that is a good portrait photographer. Also you will want somebody who also is a great event photographer as well.  This is important for the wedding party pictures.  As a San Diego portrait photographer that has to be one of the photogapher’s strengths. For the fact of the matter is that these shots are important as well.

So those are 3 good qualites that most good photographers have.  If you look for them in a photogapher you will be pleased in how your pictures turn out. Remember these photos are for a lifetime.

Things to consider when choosing a wedding photographer

For couples that are planning to marry the budget is one of the things that could cause many poblems for them. They have to allot money for the location of the wedding. They have to budget for the reception.  They have to budget for the honeymoon. And we should also consider the wedding photographer.  This is a choice people have to make on going cheap or getting a quality photographer. So now we would compare the two.

Of course this is coming from my experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. So I have had the experience of dealing with couples who are on a tight budget. But I also met couples who do not worry about the price.  Of course if money is tight you can’t get an expensive photographer.A couple can’t do anything if that would be the case.  They don’t have a choice in regards to how much they can spend. But if they just go around and interview photographers then they might have achance that they would get a good one.All they have to do is look around for photographers.

But if a couple is on a limitless budget then they should find the best ones out there. Why should they go and look for the best?Because their wedding is one of their most cherished events in their life.Don’t go for photographers that are not that good because you are entrusting them the duty of capturing the evnets during your vey special day.  I have had many people tell me they regretted not going with my San Diego photographer business because of price.  Mainly because they weren’t satisfied with the quality of the photos.

So if you are planning towed then don’t be cheap. That is if you can avoid it.  Find the best San Diego portrait photographer you can find and you will be pleased with the outcome.  For something as important as your wedding it is worth it.You are entrusting someone to capture those specail moments forever.  Make sure you place it in the hands of someone who can deliver on that trust.

Taking better-than-point-and-shoot photographs

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Saturday 14 November 2009 at 2:48 pm

One of the things that people love to do in their lives is to take photographs of almost anything dear to them or something that catches their attention.Whether it is practiced professionally or just something to capture memorable moments with and family, a lot of people do it.And people loved it more with the invention of digital cameras especially those point-and-shoot digital cameras. But taking good photographs is not just about looking for something to take, pointing, then shooting. In fact, if one really wants to take great photos of professional calibre, there are things you can learn to do.So, here are some few tips that can help you in taking better-than-point-and-shoot photos.

First one is a big help in taking great photos. It is what they call as perspective. The place where you will take the shot is very important.Taking a shot from the front will bring a different look or perspective as compared to taking photos from the side of the subject.  I have seen this firsthand doing San Diego wedding photographer.  Taking photos from multiple angles brings a totally different look to the same pose or scenery.  By taking shots from different angles you can test to see what looks the best.

Here’s another tip that is an uncommon practice of taking photos.Do not place your subjects at the center of your pictures. Most people are taught to take shots with the primary subjects at the center of the picture.  I have seen from my experience taking photos as a San Diego photographer this doesn’t always produce the best shot.  By changing the distance from the edges you create a more attractive shot with varying flows for the viewers eyes.

Last tip is to use a technique they call depth.  With this you are trying to amplify the depth of a shot.So that you can take a 3-dimensional shot rather than a 2 dimensional one. This results to nice lokking photographs.  This has helped me make some of my San Diego event photography come alive. The shots should make a person feel that they are also in the picture rather than just looking at a flat photograph.

Abiding by these steps will turn your amateurish photos into beautiful expressions.
