How to take great shots as an amateur wedding photographer

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Wednesday 25 November 2009 at 9:40 pm

One of the biggest jobs a photographer can land is wedding photography. And one of the most popular hobbies around is photography. Not all people who learn photography do it for money.Taking wedding photos is very exciting for those who are still amateur photographers. So if you have a friend getting married you can surprise them with some shots that may be better than the hired photographer. So here are some advice on improving your wedding photography.

These are some tips for an amateur photographer but they are some tips I have gained doing San Diego wedding photographer work.  So if you are a professional they could help as well too.Because as mentioned earlier in the article, doing wedding shoots is one of the most satisfying things that can happen to a photographer.

So, the first thing that you can do is to psyche yourself up to be in the moment. What am I implying when I said be in the moment?Well, almost all of us know the feeling of being in a wedding. The events here are planned to the last detail. But a lot of emotions happen during those events even if they are planned. So you should be ready for those unplannned emotions and take them.  Those will be some of the best shots of the whole wedding.  In my portfolio as a San Diego photographer you can see that to be the case.

Another thing to remember is that in a wedding people are constantly on the move. So don’t just look for still shots. You will have some of your best photos if you capture the movement of the people. It can be hard to capture moving subjects but it is possible.  Of course I had to hone my skills doing San Diego event photography to be able to do this. But once you get the hang of taking shots that are not still shots you would start to love it.You can outshoot their hired photographer. That would be a great feeling if you are still an amateur. And you can even brag about your shots to your friends.  And who knows, it could lead to paying jobs.

Tips on digital photography

One popular hobby that poeple love to do is photography.A lot of people like to take pictures.Be it may their families or events. Or they love to take phots of places they go to.One thing people want to know about is taking better photos. And since digital cameras are ubiquitous nowadays then it would be easier to do.  But there are still some things you should know to take the best photos possible. So, here are some tips to help you improve your skills in digital photography.

Now these tips are from the experience I have gained as a San Diego wedding photographer.  So these tips have come from a trial by fire.  Because when you are taking pictures for a wedding you better get it right.

The first thing you need to learn is about lighting. You, as a photographer, should know the effects of light on your shots.  This is something I learned as a San Diego photographer.  Things like the rays of the sun during the day. Or room lighting for indoor shots make a big difference.Fortunately, right now at the age of digital cameras you can already test how lighting affects your shots. So testing the lighting effects is the first tip.

The next tip I will give is one should learn the art of creating depth and dimension on your photos. In our world, we look at things in 3-dimensions.But cameras only use 2-dimensions.But you can make it look like 3-D when you learn how to create depth and dimension.  It is a trick I had to learn doing San Diego event photography.Nobody want to just look at photos of events. They like to feel as if they are in that place when looking at the photo.  By creating depth in your shots you can make people feel like they are there.

Those are just a few of the many lessons you can learn on photography but learning those two tips is valuable.Your photos will be more livelier and you will be more appreciative of your work.So you must realize that taking photos is not just a point and click thing.  No, taking pictures is an art form.

Taking better-than-point-and-shoot photographs

One of the things that people love to do in their lives is to take photographs of almost anything dear to them or something that catches their attention.Whether it is practiced professionally or just something to capture memorable moments with and family, a lot of people do it.And people loved it more with the invention of digital cameras especially those point-and-shoot digital cameras. But taking good photographs is not just about looking for something to take, pointing, then shooting. In fact, if one really wants to take great photos of professional calibre, there are things you can learn to do.So, here are some few tips that can help you in taking better-than-point-and-shoot photos.

First one is a big help in taking great photos. It is what they call as perspective. The place where you will take the shot is very important.Taking a shot from the front will bring a different look or perspective as compared to taking photos from the side of the subject.  I have seen this firsthand doing San Diego wedding photographer.  Taking photos from multiple angles brings a totally different look to the same pose or scenery.  By taking shots from different angles you can test to see what looks the best.

Here’s another tip that is an uncommon practice of taking photos.Do not place your subjects at the center of your pictures. Most people are taught to take shots with the primary subjects at the center of the picture.  I have seen from my experience taking photos as a San Diego photographer this doesn’t always produce the best shot.  By changing the distance from the edges you create a more attractive shot with varying flows for the viewers eyes.

Last tip is to use a technique they call depth.  With this you are trying to amplify the depth of a shot.So that you can take a 3-dimensional shot rather than a 2 dimensional one. This results to nice lokking photographs.  This has helped me make some of my San Diego event photography come alive. The shots should make a person feel that they are also in the picture rather than just looking at a flat photograph.

Abiding by these steps will turn your amateurish photos into beautiful expressions.

How crucial photographers are during a wedding

Wedding days are special days for almost everyone.A wedding needs a lot of things done for it to be successful.  You have to coordinate the ceremony.  You have to coordinate the location.  You have to coordinate the reception. Those are just few of the things that needs to be taken care of when a wedding is going to happen. But one important job that is really crucial is the photographer.

Why am I implying that photographers are so needed?  The fact that I am a San Diego wedding photographer doesn’t make me biased.A photographer is needed because they have the important job of chronicling the events of that special day through photos.  And if he or she is a good one they will do it well. It’s not just point and click when I say do it well.Anyone with a digital camera can do that. No, a photographer who can do it well is someone who can capture the emotions during the event through his/her photos.

That’s why you just don’t pick someone randomly to do the job.  You want an artist. Because being able to catch such an important moment in time is an art.  Being able to convey the joy and emotions of that day is a gift.  If you are going to choose a photographer choose someone who realizes that.  That is why as a San Diego photographer I try to show through my work to prospective clients the thought and care put into those shots. They aren’t just a collection for keepsakes after the wedding.  But great moments captured forever.

You also have to have photographer who understands how big and special the event is. That is why I emphasize to my clients the fact that my experience is doing San Diego event photography. That way they will know that I know how special that day is going to be.Hopefully, you should be looking for the same things if your are planning to hire one.  Because if you do, you can turn the craziness of that day into a memorable moment captured forever.
