Front Wheel Drive Versus Rear Wheel Drive

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Tuesday 29 December 2009 at 12:27 pm

Transmissions are one of the most complex systems under the hood. In fact, that’s the reason many auto repair garages will refuse to work on them. Some might perform minor repairs, but will refer you to a transmission shop for anything more extensive. There are a lot of parts involved in making sure that the system runs smoothly and mechanics are loathe to cause bigger problems.

This level of complexity often makes transmissions one of the least understood components to drivers. Adding to the confusion, they’re designed differently. Some are designed for front wheel drive while others are designed for rear wheel drive. In this article we will look at some of the differences. I’ll describe your transmission’s job and help you decipher the pros and cons of a RWD and FWD.

Understanding Its Job

Your car’s engine generates power through its 4-stroke combustion process. That power must be delivered to your drive wheels in order to turn them. Also, it’s worth noting that your engine has a range of RPMs in which it operates at maximum efficiency. Your transmission’s job is two-fold. First, it needs to deliver the power generated by the engine to the drive wheels. Second, it needs to perform this task while keeping your engine operating within its optimal range of RPMs.

This is accomplished through several gears. In low gears, the engine must turn more quickly in order to power the wheels. In higher gears, it doesn’t have to work as hard. The transmission helps the engine advance from first gear to higher gears while keeping your car moving at higher speeds.

RWD Versus FWD

If your vehicle operates on a rear wheel drive configuration, the transmission will be positioned on the back portion of your engine. A drive shaft will connect it to the rear axle. As your engine generates power and turns the crankshaft, that power is transferred though the transmission to the drive shaft and ultimately, to the rear axle. The rear axle spins, which causes your tires to rotate.

While the concept behind the power flow is similar, a front wheel drive car works a little differently. The transmission is still located near the engine. With the final drive, it forms a transaxle. A front axle connects to the transaxle, which in turn delivers power to rotate the front tires.

To keep the explanation simple, I’ve ignored the torque converter. What really happens is that power travels from the engine, through the torque converter, and then into the transmission. The other components work as described.

Is One Better Than The Other?

Modern vehicles usually have front wheel drive. An FWD weighs less, costs less to manufacture, and usually delivers higher fuel efficiency. On the other hand, an RWD distributes the weight more evenly across a car’s frame, which improves braking ability. Plus, because the design is less crowded than an FWD, it’s easier to service without taking everything apart. In the end, when choosing between RWD and FWD, consider your driving needs and the factors on which you place a high priority.

Home staging and its benefits to selling a house

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Monday 28 December 2009 at 4:39 pm

All we hear in the news today is how bad the real estate market is.But it can only be as bad as the effort you put into it.  In other words you still can sell a home in today’s market.  You just have to be willing to do whatever it takes to sell that home.Home staging is one way you can sell your house.

Making a house look nicer and make it more enticing to buyers is what home stagin is all about.Just like the new developments where they set up new model houses where people can see the looks of the houses.  In my home staging San Diego service we try to give the home a nice model home look as well. Why we do this is because we want to make the house look as perfect as possible for the prospective buyers.Adding new furnitures and a good setup of the house can do it.

Giving the buyer the idea of what he/she can do with the house is another benfit of home staging.Your goal is to make or give the buyers some ideas of what he/she can do with the house.  That is the goal of my home staging Temecula service.  Because the more ideas you give them the more they are going to want the home.

Finally home staging is real good to give the home the look of more space than it actually has.  This is what we do in my interior designer San Diego service. Not all houses can be as big as mansions.Beautiful homes that are not that big can turn off some buyers.  But if you can design the staging to give the appearance of more space it is great for selling.

So there goes some of the basics of what home staging can do to a house. You should consider this step if you are to sell your house.

Buy new windows and save a lot of money

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Monday 28 December 2009 at 4:39 pm

One thing that is needed nowadays in this economy is the need to save money.People have a lot of ideas on how to do just that.  But what people don’t realize one way they can do that is with replacement windows.Yes, you will still spend money in buying those new windows. But as soon as you have installed it you will begin to notice the money you are saving. So let us discuss why replacement windows can save you money.

Old windows are not efficient at insulating houses. And the old windows are usually single paned. That is why when it is hot outside the house is unable to retain the coolness inside the house and the house becomes hotter. And likewise when the temperature outside is freezing single paned windows are also unable to retain the heat inside the house. But by replacing your old windows with new energy efficient ones then your house can save more on energy. Most of my customers of my San Diego replacement windows company are surprised when they see how much energy they save.

Another mentioned benefit of new windows is make the owner some money. It raises the value of your homes thus making you more money.Older windows would not be able to raise the value of homes. But most people know that new windows nowadays can save money by being more energy efficient.  In a market like today where homes are losing value this is very beneficial. This is what I’m talking about when it comes to making new money by buying new windows.  Whenever clients of my San Diego glass company tell me they are trying to sell I always suggest replacement windows.

These new windows are also great to add in your bathrooms. You should not only improve the baths and the sinks.  You want to include the windows as well. When people of my San Diego frameless glass shower service are getting work done, I tell them to do this.

So there are some of the reasons why getting your windows replaced will save you money.

The Dont’s Of Driving

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Monday 28 December 2009 at 4:39 pm

There are many things that you are not allowed to do when you are driving, some of these are quite reasonable whereas some could very well be argued.

Drink Driving

This is the obvious one and has been in place for many years now. You will get an immediate fine for this and also have your driving license taken away from you on the scene so just don’t do it. If you have had a few drinks then the best piece of advice to give you is just do not risk it. The best thing to do is just walk as if you do not you could hurt or even kill someone.

Using Mobile Phone

Using a mobile phone here in the UK is not allowed unless you have hands free set which means you cannot do anything at all without hands free. Facebook, Tweeting and texting are just as dangerous which is why they are not allowed. Texting means that you have to look away from the road and onto the phone which is actually a major reason why people crash. The really bad thing is that 1 in 10 of these people actually tweet whilst driving.

Eating, drinking non alcoholic beverages and smoking are all currently things being considered illegal to be doing when driving. Things like this also need to be stopped, I do not agree that it is fair but it could save lives if they are put into place so it could be worthwhile. The thing is, it really doesn’t take much to pull over to have a drink or eat something. Stop at the burger joint to eat rather than taking it with you.

If you are thinking about getting a car then why not look into getting Alfa Romeo Car contract hire or perhaps even Aston Martin Car Lease. Lease purchase is an affordable way of getting a new car.

Some Of The Worst Car Movies

Posted under General by TDI Guru on Monday 28 December 2009 at 4:39 pm

Cars have been used very well in so many films, however this is not the case in these specific films. Some of these films have done okay in the box office but are still really bad films.

Herbie: Fully Loaded

This film was more of a remake than anything and it was released in 2005 and starred Lindsay Lohan, Justin Long and Michael Keaton. The reason why it is on the list is simply because it couldn’t possibly touch the original films and although it may significant profit and won Lohan an award it just wasn’t up to the standards that it should have been.

Fast and Furious

Although there are so many people that love these films and think they are the best car films out there I will say I have to disagree and I think they are all rubbish. The film really only encourages people to pimp up really bad cars in a really bad way. The main problem I have with these films is that they are always very much the same and end up with a crappy race at the end. None of the critics have really liked any of these films yet they seem to do very well in the box office for some strange reason.

The Italian Job- Remake

The Italian Job remake was just something that should have never been attempted and although it was made as a homage to the original rather than a remake. Although it had a pretty good cast of actors the film was just poor and they are even talking about making a sequel to it which in my opinion will just not work at all.

In all seriousness, if you are actually considering getting a car then it may be worth looking into car leasing or van leasing as it can actually prove to be a cheaper way of doing things. When it comes to purchasing a vehicle it can always be a good idea for you to look at all of the options that are available. For specific manufactures why not try BMW Leasing.
