There are many reasons why you would need to replace your motorcycle gas tank.  Naturally if you’ve got a gas tank which is damaged or leaking in any way you need to make certain to replace it before you get into an accident and go up in flames.  A lot of riders choose to replace gas tanks which are in perfect condition so they can put in a new tank which can provide them a bigger riding range.   

One type of riding which has become increasing popular over the last several years is desert riding.  This is where you actually begin to catch sight of the constraints of your original motorcycle gas tank.  The big trial when designing new aftermarket motorcycle gas tanks is to create a product which can give the rider a much bigger riding range without having a negative impact on ergonomics, weight, or the appearance of the bike.  Luckily there are some excellent aftermarket gas tanks on the market these days that do just that.  Some of the top producers of aftermarket motorbike gas tanks are IMS and Zip-Ty Racing.   

The designers at IMS have been working with champion motocross racer Ty Davis, founding father of Zip-Ty Racing, to create the following generation of motorcycle gas tanks.  These new sleek gas tanks have been test driven by numerous alternative riders.  The main understanding is that they hold a ton more gas but feel rather like the stock tank.   

A lot of early versions of OEM gas tanks were way too awkward.  This added bulk made turns and cornering difficult.  These new tanks give you all of the blessings of extra fuel capacity without this added bulk.  Taking a ride on a motorcycle outfitted with one of these new tanks is the most effective way to see the advantages .  They are snug to ride and look great.
