Sticky Gas Pedal Investigation With The Dodge Caliber
2007 Dodge Caliber vehicles are slated for investigation for sticky accelerator pedals, as announced yesterday by the National Highway Traffic Safety. The sticky pedal issue, as confirmed by both Dodge and the NHTSA, has not caused any property damage, accidents or injuries.
NHTSA received Dodge Caliber pedal complaints
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that they would be “reviewing” the “potential sticky accelerator pedal” issue. So far, there have been five consumer reports sent to the NHTSA about the problem. The Dodge Caliber is equipped with a brake override system. This means that if anyone behind the wheel of the Dodge Caliber undergoes a sticky accelerator pedal, the driver can still stop the vehicle.
Dodge Caliber sticky pedals manufactured by CTS
CTS Corporation, a company in Indiana, manufactured the accelerator pedals in the 2007 Dodge Caliber. The same accelerator pedals manufacturer, CTS Corporation, have also been found in numerous Toyota recall. In the last few days, however, CTS shares have risen despite worries on sticky gas pedals. At this point it is still uncertain whether the faulty pedals that were installed in Dodge and Toyota vehicles were installed in other vehicles.
Investigations include Dodge Calibers
There has been no recall of the 2007 model year Dodge Caliber. Almost 161,000 Dodge Calibers in the 2007 model year would be included in the NHTSA investigation. The sticky gas pedal problem, as stated by Dodge Motor Company, has been narrowed down to about 10,000 Dodge Calibers manufactured during March and April of 2006. A Dodge Caliber recall may likely follow upon the launch of the investigation. This investigation is based on the purely mechanical problem of the gas pedal – not an electrical or design issue.
