The BMW Z3 knew how to make an entrance. This car looked like it came from a gun barrell manufacturing company, along with Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond flick GoldenEye shortly before its introduction for model-year 1996. This great setup, along with all of the buzz of this being BMW’s first mass market roadster, made the Z3 an instant success. The 1995 Neiman Marcus catalog ran with a luxury sports car as the ubber Christmas gift, with more orders placed than it could handling, instantly selling out the car.

The public still very much digs the BMW Z3, and actively eye balls this car. Although the chassis of the Z3 was stiff and not technology oriented, the Z3 is still a worthy car, just like how the Miata put new life into the roadster market. At the start, this was offered with only a 1.9-liter 138-horsepower inline-4 banger engine, a 2.8-liter inline-6 making 190 hp became available in 1997. (One could see the difference between the two from the wider rear fenders.) This was a great straight-6 engine with smooth as silk power, and a kicken stereo, made the Z3 come alive. Handling was crisp. The Z3′s ride is a great middle ground, those who want a zip of power every now and then, to Sunday drivers for comfort. For those with a few extra bucks to spend on a car, the could upgrade from the Miata.Going top down in a Z3, you will need a windscreen.

The BMW Z3 still has its own list of nits. For the draw backs, some of the interior components had a cheap feel, and tall people wouldn’t be comfortable squeezing inside. Convertible models were also saddled with a chintzy plastic rear window that sullied the car’s luxury image by clouding over time. Finally, the coupe’s styling was highly polarizing.  The, for the Z3 with the top-down, you will need a windscreen.

But these imperfections are pretty minor. A used BMW Z3 can be an affordable luxury, saving major bucks of th e new sticker price. If you’re in the market for a stunning used coupe or convertible that handles even better than it looks, you owe it to yourself to investigate this talented Bimmer.
